There is a huge resistance of breeders to recognized LP as a genetic albeit recessive disorder, particularly if all else being superb the breeding dog has very mild LP in ONLY one knee.

And it is very true that two clear dogs can produce a pup with LP.

Owners are notoriously lack in limiting jumping, not to mention proper training and socialization. I am not saying you are, but I see it all around me and all the time.

I am not sure what the answer is, more studies are needed. In many large breeds we have been working over 30 years to eliminate hip dysplasia, doing the screenings et al, and only to a marginal degree of success. There are now some actual genetic tests for a couple of breeds which will help those breeders select dogs that will not throw dysplastic hips.

I am so very sorry you are going through this.
