I adopted a yorkie that didn't like children. Like you, I only am around children a few times a year. What I did was just kept Brandi in another room when children were around or I held her. Since I wasn't around children that much, having a yorkie that didn't like children wasn't an issue for me.

As long as you are aware that your yorkie doesn't like children, there are things you can do to protect the yorkie as well as the children. I did several things. I would put Brandi in her expen or I would keep her in my bedroom with the door closed. I always may sure to let the parents know that my dog does not like kids. Depending on the age of your grandkids and the amount of time they are going to be spending with you would determined the best methods to use to keep both the pup and the kiddies protected from each other.
