Welcome to YT and congrats on your new addition. 3 years ago I adopted a 2 1/2 yo boy, a surrender, who also did not know how to play with toys. Not knowing what he would like I bought a LARGE variety of all types of toys and BALLS, all my now passed girls LOVED balls. It took him months to finally play with anything, and the ball lol, he wouldn't go near it, I NEVER saw a dog that didn't like a ball. Bully stick, cow hoof he had NEVER had anything like this to chew and showed a slight sign of aggression, afraid I was going to take it away. With rescues it may be a long process, weeks, for them to adjust to his new human family, surroundings, smells, schedules, LOVE and ATTENTION. He has to gain trust with his new human family and bond with you. Keep the toys out, keep playing encouraging him to play. He will come around. When he does play praise like crazy, and treat rewards are great. Praise to show playing is a good thing. Rescues, you may never know what his past was like, he may never had, had a toy and doesn't know what to do with it, that's why it is important to praise when that time comes and he picks up a toy to play, praise shows it's a GOOD thing. He will come around. I now have a beast that FLINGS ALL his toys around, I'm waiting for him to knock a lamp over or crack the TV lol. Patience, love and praise. Please keep up updated. AND thank you for rescuing.
