He's reaching puberty. They can be such a menace when going through adolescence. Make sure you're doing obedience training with him - it's good for mental exercise to tire him out as well as making sure he's behaving. Likewise, make sure he's getting enough physical exercise - take him on walks, play fetch etc.

When you're not around, make sure there's nothing he can access that you don't want damaged. Instead, load up on a lot of variety of toys. X-pens are great for when you're away.

There are trays that hold the pee pad in place to prevent him tearing it up.

Last, this period may last longer than you expect, but don't fret! It's the storm before the calm. Once you get over this (and maintain your training exercises), he'll be forever your sweet little angel.
