Vets are not usually very educated on nutrition because they get very little training on it in school. You will find most people say the same thing about their vets. There are lots of good raw feeding groups on Facebook for support.
I myself am a huge proponent of raw and whole food diets and generally feed a mix of The Honest Kitchen and raw. At this point, I've seen so many benefits, you couldn't pay me to feed kibble to my dogs.
