Piper isn't big on smooches---as my mom would say, Piper is stingy with giving kisses. And that's fine by me; I'd rather ask for a little lick than have to push her away for too many. I don't think there's any "normal" with our little ones as each seems to possess unique behaviors that may or may not have reasons. As for the fear of other dogs, that could be a result of an attack or lack of socialization. I would take it slow and follow his lead until you can better figure out his fear. After being grabbed by an Akita, Piper gives wide berth to all large dogs--I fully support her in this...Within a few weeks of bringing Piper home, I tried to entice her to play by blowing some bubbles---she took one look, skirted around those floating objects and ran inside! As I said, these little characters have an idiosyncrasy or two, yes?!
