If you have carpet and your yorkies like to have accidents have you resulted to "banning" them from the carpeted areas of the home?

I'm trying to make a decision on how I can save my carpet. I don't want to always crate her but I think I will have to start over with the potty training again from scratch. Since I'm home I think its doable but in the interim, Emma might have to be secluded to the downstairs.
