If you don't want to use chemicals then you would need limit your dog's access to the outside and use a flea comb before bringing the dog back inside after outings.

You can buy an all natural flea powder called. Diatomaceous Earth that you can put directly on your pet, your yard, or in your home. If you are careful about using your flea comb hopefully will not need anything else. The DE is available at pet supply stores. Read ingredient lists. Sometimes companies will add other ingredients that lessen the DE effect. You can also buy DE in bulk online for use in yards or other places.

My smallest baby is 5lbs. We use Advantage II for 10lbs and under on her 4 months out of the year. We live back in the woods and have indoor outdoor cats. They are treated also but still fleas can ride in on them if I don't get them with the comb first. We go on at least 2 walks a day with the dogs and cover a lot of ground. Fleas like to hitch a ride in on people and pets.
