I adopted my Peek when he was 5 years old, and I was his fourth owner. I watched him in the yard to try to figure out what he was up to. I noticed a pattern after a few days: he would go out and pee in a few spots, but then he became curious about his new surroundings and would forget to poop, until he came back in the house again and settled down. I started to just take him out a second time, because once he came in after the first time, his relaxing triggered his need to poop. Timing is critical, LOL!

I tried retraining him like a puppy at first, which didn't work out at all. After two months I decided to just watch him, to try to figure out why he was doing what he was doing. And when he did finally poop outside, the praise party started. Praising a Yorkie will have an exponentially good effect on their behavior over disciplining bad behavior.
