You need a cleaner like epotic or something with a drying agent in it and you need your vet to show you how to clean the ears. Ears should be cleaned after baths or swimming and at least once a week if prone to ear issues. The dogs ear is shaped like an L so just using a qtip would just pack dirt and wax down in the ear and cause bigger issues!
