Do not put anything in the ear canal, deep inside the ear. You can cause more problems and possibly permanent damage.

One of my boys has ear drops right now. Our first ear infection. He is prone to getting water in his ears during his bath. I haven't been doing as good a job of making sure his ears are dry. Moisture leads to growth of yeast and bacteria, then infection.

We usually use Vet Solutions ear cleaner. It has a drying agent that is good for after baths and swimming.

Excessive hair in the ear can also contribute to infection. Some Yorkies do better with all of the hair removed, some are better off with a little hair left. Sometimes aggressive hair removal can contribute to infection.

Diet is another consideration. If your pup is prone to frequent ear infections, a diet change might help.
