Lots of great advise here!
I wonder if you have a separate bedroom for you and your pup? If so you might keep the potty training in that area and not have it so open to family discussions while you are training.

XPens are always great until they can be trusted and as other have said PATIENCE!

Maybe after the pups has gone potty on the pad your dad could have a fetch fest with him!
