If it were ME, I would do what ever I had to do to get him to eat and drink. As long as he is not in pain.
My last girl was 17 yo, was losing bladder control, 90 % blind and deaf, in early stages of dementia, she was playful just played in a different way. Came a day she didn't eat, I was able to hand feed her some food, the next day she wouldn't eat, I made her boiled boneless chicken cutlets, her most favorite food, she turned it down, through out the day I hand fed her, she ate a small amount. Day 3 the same thing but she had diarrhea, so off to ER vet. we go, she was kept 7 days on IV. Everyday I would visit her, everyday she was thinner and thinner, she lost so much weight. When she was healthy she weighed 17 pounds, not FAT just a BIG yorkie. Day 7 I was told her organs were shutting down, I had to let her go. It was the worse day in my life, but she was in pain, suffering I BEGGED my vet to try and save she, my vet said there was nothing more she could do once the organs start to shut down. That was 3 years ago, and I still cry when I think of that last last.
If your vet found your baby was not in pain, if you are able to get him to eat enough food and drink enough water, if it was ME I would do what ever I had to do to keep him. Just my opinion of what I WOULD DO.
You are living with your baby, you know your baby, you will know when that time comes and you will make the right choice for your boy. (((hugs)))
