Default older yorkie nearing the end...advice please

My Bear is 15 1/2 years old.Two weeks ago he began to stagger and unstable and shaking. I took him to the vet and she said basically it was his age.He was still drinking and eating a little. On Dec 20 he became unresponsive and i thought it was the end.I gave him water from a syringe and later he rebounded. Then he started eating again and had a few good days.I am making him chicken and rice and he ate that for a few days.yesterday we moved on to left over roast and he ate some of that.Today he goes and stands at his water bowl but never gets a drink... so i gave him more water by syringe. He is very disoriented at night up down. I am sleeping in the living room on a air mattress with him.He can still go in and out his dog door, and looks for me when he comes back in. He is in no pain. I guess my question is should be giving him water by syringe and begging him to eat. This is the hardest thing ever. What should I do? Has anyone else been through this. Any advice would be welcome!
