If you are going for a puppy cut then you can risk a visit to the groomer but most of them cut it more than you hope. Can't believe number of horror stories on here. Take in 4 month old black/tan Yorkie pick up a silver stranger.

Do I sound pesimistic? LOL

It is normal for the hair on their head to be very thin and a lot of them look bald. That means they are probably going to have a nice silky coat that you can groom yourself. Do a search on here, lots of good advice regarding how to do it...or ask Villette or Lexi's Mom.
Well..... that was hurtful. Anyway, taking your puppy to a groomer at a young age is important if you plan to do it in the future. Yes, finding a groomer that you can trust is very important, he/ she must LISTEN to what YOU want and NOT what he or she would want. Find a place that keeps records of what they do to each dog, that way if you don't like something, it will be easy to go back to see what was done and change it. Always be specific in what you want done. Because, just telling a groomer that you would like her to have a haircut leaves open options for the groomer (she may guess that what you meant by "haircut" was a short "teddy" and when in all reality you only wanted a light trim for a growing coat. Let her know what you plan to do with her coat and she can help you! Also, it makes it easier on the puppy if she can see the same groomer every time and not be passed back and forth between other groomers in the shop (she will gain a better trust this way). Not all groomers perform screw-up jobs, otherwise the grooming shop would be nonexistent. Don't be afraid to ask for pictures or references if you feel the need. Yes, if you would like to grow her coat out there is plenty of information on the web on how to do it yourself and the supplies you would need to make it easier on the both of you. I wish you the best of luck!
