I am very sorry to hear your baby is in pain. Injury is a strong possibility. I would do the xrays, and follow the doctor's instructions for strict crate rest.
Max and Teddy have both have had neck/shoulder/back strains at separate times. I believe they were both injured wrestling with each other. We witnessed Teddy's, but not Max's. Their reactions were not quite as severe as your baby's, but it was scary. Thankfully they both recovered and haven't had any further problems.
I would be worried about what happened with the child and your Yorkie.
