I taped Bobby's ears once and used the cloth-like bandage tape that you can get in the first-aid section of stores. It was soft but sturdy and I had no problem removing it. Bobby didn't even mind having it on! He didn't keep scratching or trying to remove it, probably because it was soft.
I had his ears shaved today and they're standing up! Yay!!!!
