At that age keep regular appointments with the vet and have blood work done as often as they recommend. One of our Cairn terriers we got in 1998 lived to 2016, outliving the other one by nearly 5 years.
I know for sure Roxie would not have lived as long if we hadn't taken her to the vet every time a health issue arose. She was still running to the door jumping around and excited to see us at 17. She had CHD was on medication and enjoyed excellent quality of life up until about the last 2 weeks of her life.
