You will need to keep them apart for at least 3 weeks. Most people do not know that just because a male is neutered it does not mean they loss interesting in breeding. It is not that uncommon for a neutered male to tie with a female in heat. Your best option would be to get the female spayed if she is not going to be bred; otherwise you will have to go through this every time she comes in heat.
