lol cute descriptions, to answer your question, NO not normal for the breed. My now passed 4 girls would catch small balls in the air, of course I had to teach them, praise when they caught it in mid air with command word of "catch it", no praise when they missed, just tossed it again. My adopted boy Cody, now 5 yo and very smart has learned to "catch it" in mid air he will jump in the air to "catch it", some thing my girls never did. I would say, it all depends on the dog, guess they are "just" not into catching things lol.
