Yes the standard says docked to medium length. It should no be docked really short. A lot of pet breeders dock too short

Truly, I need to paint it on my wall above the yorkie castle! Lol. I feel like Lilah's tail is docked quite short. So short in fact that I feel like the aesthetic balance between her perky ears is a bit off. Though I will note that her tail hair has never grown very fantastically (a short docking recourse perhaps?) like dblains Lola- my goodness she has lovely tail hair! Even when Lilah is sporting a long coat her tail hair growth seems quite stunted.

Does anyone here dock their own tails? How do you determine the docking length? Is there a docked tail length determined by ytca or akc?
I dock my own. I measure about 1/3in past where the tan turns into black under the tail and dock there. Anything shorter than 1/4in past the tan will probably be too short. My 5 month puppy I docked closer to 1/2in past the tan and it's slightly longer than I'd prefer so I'll stick to 1/3in in the future.
