Henryoh, another tip from experience: don't wash your baby's head for a couple weeks. When the cornea first heals, the layer of cells can be weak. Water and potential soap in the eye can cause problems. Give it time to strengthen.

Russ, ouch! Every human I've known with a scratch has taken a long time to heal. With Max's corneal ulcers and scratches, some of them closed up overnight. It was still important to keep giving the medicine.

Max had one ulcer that would not heal and he was scheduled for surgery, grid keratotomy. The 'hole' of the ulcer closed within 2 hours that morning. I had the vet take a look and confirm, and surgery was cancelled. Hooray!
