Default Brushing Teeth bleeding gums and tartar.

I have been brushing my Yorkie's teeth for years, he is 10 years old.

I use a very soft toothbrush and I bought a good toothpaste. I use Virbac Enzymatic tooth paste and Sentry petrodex. The later, I just started and appears to work much better. I noticed it appears to remove the tartar and I have only been using it for a couple of weeks.

My issue is, if I do not brush his teeth for one or two days(happens rarely) and come back to brushing, his gums bleed and I am sure it is gingivitis or possibly the toothbrush.

As anyone found a good method to get rid of tartar and at the same time not have the bleeding gums.

I took him to the vet several months ago and the vet said his teeth looked good and that I had been doing a good job. I asked about the tartar and he
said all dogs have a little tartar.

Just not sure, bleeding gums and tartar persist. Please anyone having good results. Please let me know.
