Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I fed Max a few kibble treats holding them over his water bowl. That helped a little and he took more than a few sips of water at one time.

Jean, we've tried the hamster style water bottle in the past and had some issues with static electricity and shocks. Had to give up on that.

I've tried mugs and tall glasses, but Max associates those with my human drinks that are bad for him, so he stays away.

I put out dishes made of different materials. He isn't interested.

Also trying just staying calm, not making an issue of it, and hoping that he will just get over it and start drinking again as Dudley's Mom recommended.
