Mine do that too. I guess they have worked out their schedule now so that they know at about what times I will be hanging out in the kitchen (that is where the food bowl is) and that is when they eat. Like in the mornings when I am making/getting coffee, getting snack/lunch food ready for the day at work or school. Fixing supper in the evenings or doing dishes, etc.
My girls also (only the girls do this) will take a piece of food in their mouth, run into the other room to eat it, then return to start the process all over again. Funny! Seems to me they are wasting a lot of energy, but that is their method.
Actually, I don't think any of mine will stay in any room by themselves for any amount of time... social creatures or just plain nosey??
