Not a chance I would wait months because they "might get" a tummy upset. Not that I haven't had a dog like that, I have one now. He doesn't get big changes, or he gets diarrhea, or gas, but he can tolerate small changes every day now.

As a pup the breeder told me he was fed raw. I drove down her driveway and he vomited a pile of kibble.... I went very slowly for him, GSD aware known to have digestive issues.
It's not because they might get a tummy upset it's that it gives them something the same when you change everything else. It also gives you time to see if the puppy has stomach issues like worms, or other viruses you can get from things when they are puppies especially if they are coming from unrepeatable breeders and bad places.
