We were feeding Armaneo food specifically formulated for his poorly functioning kidneys. I'm not sure it would be appropriate for your little one, but it was Royal Canin - Renal Formula E (canned).

As for the biopsies, I understand your concern. It ultimately comes down to your trust in the medical team. Doctors and vets regularly administer general anesthesia and perform surgeries on infants and small animals alike, and know what they are doing. Yes, it's trickier the smaller the body, but I don't think they would attempt the surgery without understanding (and conveying to you) the risks. If the doctors think the hernia surgery is medically necessary, then your little one needs to go under anesthesia anyway, so the biopsies can occur without too much further interruption (I think). But, I'm no medical professional. Good luck. I know how stressful this is.
