A lot of people come into my store and buy ivermectin for a variety of issues regarding internal and external parasites. I think ivermectin is an amazing drug and we are lucky to have it, but if incorrectly dosed it can be very dangerous and kill your dog or put it in a coma. People are often much more liberal with their animal health management behaviors witb livesfock than they would be a pet dog- I will have people swearing up and down that the best way to deworm an animal with ivermectin is to give the injectable oraly and I always talk to them about the potential for internal hemmorage due to the medication acting differently when given in a different way. Ironically goats typically need three times the anthelmentic per pound of body weight than cattle or swine, there are so many variables in safe medication use, it is wise to be cautious and do your research.
