I leave some hair on the end of the sheath for the urine to run down. If the dog is getting any of the hair wet from touching that hair on the sheath, I will trim out about 1 inch in front of the sheath on the belly.
The problem with having an intact male is they are stud dogs or wanna be stud dogs. So they tend to do a lot of spraying, so if you have one doing that, you really need to put him in wraps, even if you only put one on each side in the middle there where it gets wet. Hope this helps.
