Are you grooming yourself or looking for a picture to take to the groomer?
As for keeping his coat long, I don't think that's as necessary if you prefer short coat. I keep both mine in summer/puppy cut all year. If I think it's chilly or we're going out in colder weather, I put sweater/jackets on them.
