Introducing new kitten Hi I need some help! I'm looking for help introducing my 10 year old yorkie to my daughters kitten. Mia, my yorkie is a 4lb rescue with a bit of separation anxiety. I've had her for a long time now and she always seemed oblivious to cats when going for walks or cats walking in the yard.
The first time they met yesterday seemed ok. Mia was sniffing and licking the kitten, trying to figure out what it was. But the following time she trapped the kitten under her. I've seen her play with other small dogs like that but I don't feel comfortable her doing that with the kitten. She is getting worked up, and when I separate them she gets really worked up panting barking and pacing, and watching the door to the room the kitten is in.
I just tried introducing again with a harness and leash and giving her treats when she didn't pay attention to the kitten. But once she focused on the kitten nearby she didn't care for treats anymore and got really worked up again, taking some time to calm down.
I don't think she's been aggressive per se, but territorial. Do you have any suggestions to make the process successful, however long it takes?
Thank you! |
