I prefer the scissor kind over the "guillotine" straight style. The scissors allow you to cut from the side. For me, that makes it easier to avoid cutting too much nail and cutting the quick, causing bleeding.

For smaller Yorkies, or dogs with small nails, the cat nail clippers work well.

Have some styptic powder or corn starch on hand in case of bleeding.
