Definitely supervise closely. A note about hawks: our 9+ pound Yorkie neighbor was attacked by one in his front yard. Bigger Yorkie doesn't always mean safer. Luckily the hawk's talon's did not hit any major organs, and narrowly missed the diaphragm. He survived with surgery and had a drain hanging out of his side for a week.
