My Vet gave me the formula for resting energy requirements for a yorkie or it might be for all dogs in general. The formula is 70* weight in kg to the 0.75 power. Take that alnumber and multiple it by 3 if your dog is 4 months old or less or multiple it by 2 if they're older than 4 months old. This gives you the daily calories needed for your dog. Then on the dog food bag it will say how many calories are in cup of dog food or I do it by how many grams have a certain amount of calories. I weigh out the amount that will give my dog his daily calorie intake and split that up into three portions. I feed my guy three times a day. If you're giving a lot of snacks subtract those calories from the amount of food you give him. This will give you the most specific amount of calories your dog needs. |
