Usually they don't feed them for the first 24 hours or a bit longer depending on symptoms.
Is it possible it is his back? Did the vet do a thorough overall physical exam? I have had pups mimic stomach issues and hunch over but it was their backs.
He isn't vomiting or having diarrhea?
I wouldn't concern myself about the water...you don't always see them drinking a lot and sometimes they get enough in their food.
