Sad Yorkie Trait?

Sorry but all Yorkies, have teary eyes. For what ever reason it is a Yorkie trait. Both my male and female have teary eyes so it's not gender specific or anything like that.
I wash their eyes daily as part of their grooming routine, I used to use pre-moistened baby wipes, I've tried cotton balls with a solution that I found at the Pet Store and another one that I found at the Groomer's.
But nothing works better than good old fasioned soapy warm water on a facial tissue. Really diluted so it doesn't get in his eyes.
A Breeder in California, told me to give them distilled water.....he explained that the tear stains drain the minerals from the water?
That was the first time I've heard that so I don't know how true it was?
But none of his dogs had any tear stains or watery eyes?
