As Farleys indicated, different dogs have different metabolisms. My younger boy has a much faster metabolism than the older one.

I also agree that you need to train them to eat out of separate dishes to better monitor intake. With my boys, I stood between them to keep the younger one out of the older one's bowl. A yummy enticement on top of the food for the younger one might help. He'll get used to the new arrangement if you enforce it.

Dog foods usually recommend feeding more than is really required. I feed my boys less than the recommended amount. Plus, you have to factor in the treats for daily calorie intake.

At one year of age, that is the time to cut back a little anyway on intake. Puppies usually need more food while they are growing.
