I ALWAYS tell my pups "lets go outside & go potty" I have done this with every dog puppy or adult that has entered my home since I was a teenager and there have been many, many dogs since then as I rescue dogs & I have never had any house breaking issues & the process has never taken me any more then 2 wks. You MUST be persistent though & take him out at least 1 time every hour . When you say good boy/girl while they are in the act of doing their business it does 2 things, 1 it lets them know where you want them to potty & 2 it trains them to potty on command witch is very nice if you have to leave home in a hurry, then you don't have to stand outside waiting while they dilly dally sniffing every blade of grass till they find the rite one to pee on. So you are starting over just like when you first brought him home. If it's mostly happening during the night then you may need to change his feeding time so he will get his business done before bedtime. I feed 3 times a day & the last feeding is @ 8:00 P.M. & bedtime is between 10:00 & midnight. I do have 1 pup who can't seem to go unless I give him a treat about 1/2 hr before his last potty break, this treat stimulates his system & then he goes rite out for a poo & potty.
Yes to this. We have words associated with pee or poop in our house. "Do you need to pee pee/poopie?" "Do you wanna go outside?" are very common sayings in my house. I even have the boys saying it. For the most part, I don't wait for him to ask, I ask him. Also, we had potty parties when he would go in the right place. We would literally jump up and down, do silly dances, and lots of excitement when he would go where he should. Ah.. the good ol' days. It feels like an eternity ago that we were potty training.

Moving always adds another twist to training or retraining. Seeing as how my boy is older, (he just turned 8) when we first moved into this house last December, I let him have the master suite while I was at work. Well... the old owner must have had a dog as well, and the master suite must have smelled like something that Kaji would and did pee everywhere in that room. I locked him in the master bathroom, big sizable bathroom with tile floors (easy to clean) and all that did was made him scream bloody murder.

It took some time, but we finally found what works. I close the hallway door, and the doors to the other rooms (including the master suite) so he has access to our room and the main bathroom with his piddle pads. He's much happier this way. He's in our room that has all his stuff, and lots of stuff that smells like me, and he has an easy to clean place for potty. It took some playing around, but we found what works.

Don't give up!! You'll figure it out too..
