Im a groomer and for plucking - its only if the ears are packed with hair preventing air from getting in. Because a little hair doesnt hurt and again, plucking when not necesary can cause irritations. My yorkie is almost 10 years old and has never had to have his ears plucked or cleaned he gets groomed regularly and i look in them all the time. But they have never needed it
That's not necessarily true ears normally should be cleaned weekly especially with dogs allergys and they should always be cleaned with a ear cleaner with a drying agent after they get bathed/wet.
