A shot and daily baths did not seem to do good. Yesterday I took Toby back to the vet with that information and we went from there.
We got an Rx of Apoquel of which he gets a half tab twice a day for two weeks then once a day and a bottle of Douxo chlorhexidine for a daily bath for a while. After two doses of the Apoquel yesterday he has stopped scratching and pulling at his hair and so far no side effects. Hopefully this will work well and we can stop during the winter months.
I was told by the vet that the change from the East Coast to the Midwest was likely responsible for his troubles and I believer it. He's a bit over nine years old and came to us last February from our daughter in Jersey. I doubt it is the food as we have continues to give him the same food he has always had so environment is the likely culprit.
My little buddy has never tested positive for heart worm and gets Heart Guard. For preventing fleas he gets NexGard. In the time he's been here he has taken over the family and home. He seems to get panic attacks in the car or truck though.
I want to thank everyone for their responses and advice. This is a great site and Adele and I both will be back often to see what's going on. |
