Default Potty Training question for 11 wk old

Have a question since all you went thru this at one time when yours was little...Max has been is very good lately about going potty outside (except someone didn't tell him my front door mat is the same as the lawn!)
He won't whine he just comes and stares me down, then I ask if he needs to go potty and out we go...when he is done he plays with my toes or just comes to the door. I'm pleased with his progress...or is it my progress (haha)
His problem is at night..when he was sleeping in our bed it was accident free but I finally have him use to a play yard at night. I put in his big blanket which fills the play yard so he thinks its his bed and they won't go in his bed(someone hasn't taught him this yet). But he wakes up at night and we take him out but maybe we don't catch him soon enough?? since he doesn't go potty when we have him outside. I wash the bedding in odor ban which should take out the smell of any pee if he is using his bedding.

Question...should I get a smaller area for his bed? I don't want to crate him and a play yard is easy for him to see us at night and not feel confined. After 7am I can open up the door to the bathroom and he has the run of the bathroom and play yard so he has his breakfast in there while we get a extra few winks. He will be allowed to sleep with us once the other 2 dogs and 2 cats that are in our bed can tolerate him. But would a smaller area be better or just give him the run of the bathroom?
