Default [News] German Shepherd Kills a Yorkie! :(

So much sad Yorkie news lately!!! Please be watchful of your Yorkies! We have to get the word out to protect our lil' pups!
---
VINELAND, NJ -- A local attorney is charged with letting his German shepherd run loose after police discovered it may have killed a Yorkshire terrier Tuesday morning.

A German shepherd was in Landis Park around 10 a.m. when it crossed Park Drive and attacked a 1-year-old terrier named Peanut, police said.

Peanut was leashed to the Park Drive home of its owner, Delilah Segers.

Segers said she used a vacuum cleaner to beat back the shepherd, which caused it to then attack her.

Segers told police that attorney Charles Girard of East Landis Avenue came from the park and took the animal away by the collar.

The shepherd was not on a leash and Girard simply went back to the park without identifying himself, Segers said.

Her daughter, Diana, took Peanut to a veterinarian. But it was already dead.

"I can't describe how I feel," Segers said. "There was no reason for this."

Officers later found Girard in Landis Park with a German shepherd that was not on a leash, police said. The city's animal control officer said she would issue summonses to Girard for having a potentially dangerous dog and allowing a dog to run at large.

Girard could not be reached Tuesday for comment. In a police report, he indicated he would sign a countercomplaint against Segers. He told police that her dog was standing near the road edge when his dog approached -- but that the German shepherd did not bite or attack.
