Its best to put your eyes on the facilities and the dogs. Any decent breeder will be happy to let you in and see what's going on and go over the papers, etc. Also, for whatever reason, the bar for what constitutes as a "reputable breeder" is going up and up mainly because of the competition in selling these dogs. Yorkies are like the #1 breed in the country, they are in high demand and because they don't have many puppies and are easy on allergies, they are pricey, period. If you are not looking to breed or show, there are plenty healthy , well bred puppies around especially from smaller up and coming breeders and then of course the "oops" litters. All puppies need a good home. Just shop around, you seem like you are doing your due diligence already, I'm sure you will find what you are looking for.
