I have to agree, yep, looks pure yorkie to me. Keep in mind you are his 3rd family and his first owner being elderly most likely didn't play with him, so he doesn't know how to play. Give him time to adjust to you and your partner, time for him to know he has found his forever home, time to gain trust in you and to bond with you. Lots of patience, TLC, and nice walks will help. You can try rolling a ball, but, not all dogs are into balls. My boy is a rescue and didn't know how to play, had no interest in balls, now after 2.5 years as a team lol he is NOT the dog I rescued. Bless you for bring this lil guy into your family. He's adorable.
