I highly recommend Flint River Ranch. It has no by-products and the company has zero bloat compalints.
If you go on the web you can read about the product - but I believe every website selling Flint River Ranch is operated by a distributor - not the actual company.
The number to the company will have it shipped directly to your door from their ovens with no shipping charge. the # is 909-682-5048. If you want a distributor # to order it under, PM me and I'll give it to you - it's my holistic vets.
you can get them to send you some sample packs. It looks unlike any other food - because it is twice baked and then broken into pieces, so the pieces are not some uniform size and shape. And you can add water to it if you want - I don't.
Flint River Ranch uses only wholesome ingredients. No by-products, commercial meals, products contaminated with chemicals, or any chemical preservative. This doesn't make them unique, as other pet health foods are essentially human quality. The oven baking process changes the molecular structure of the starches into an "easier to digest" form. There is less stress to the digestive system and, to my knowledge, this is the only company using this process.
My vet say's the change in a pet's health is almost always noticeable within a short time. The food is very concentrated and highly digestible resulting in less digestive health problems and smaller stools to clean up.
Flint River also is very compact - so you feed a whole lot less than other foods and it costs no more, usually less, to feed than any premium commercial food. I feed 1/4 cup a day to each dog - mine are both 3. You would probably feed a puppy less, maybe only 1/8 cup
the company has never had a "bloat" claim against it. The manufacturing process prevents this. The oven-baking and "cracked kibbles" only absorb enough moisture to start the digestion process, then they break down. Other meals/products, continue to absorb a great amount of water.
I normally feed Flint River Ranch Puppy & Adult Kibble Dog Food - with at least 37 ingredients including chicken, whole wheat flour, ground rice, lamb meal and fish meal. Have also tried Flint River Ranch Trout & Potato - it has Trout, Potato, Course Ground Millet, Herring Meal, Oatmeal and Sweet Potatoes for the first 5 ingredients and also cranberries and blueberries in it.
Years ago with previous dogs I fed Science Diet - you might want to search on YT or the web to get the truth on this food. I believe high quality healthy dog food or cooking for your dog is the best route to go - Result one healthy, happy dog!
If my life wasn't so hectic I might switch the Yorkies food to Sojourner Farms. I used it for awhile when one of my Bichons was ill. But it does take more time than measuring out a scoop of dry dog food.
It's a great product made froma human quality raw grain and supplement mix that you mix at home with water, meat, and vegetables.
My vet believes the best nutrition is wholesome fresh foods prepared at home. He advocates fresh raw meat and vegetables with added properly prepared carbohydrates. Along with proper supplements.
My dogs love baby carrots, apples and banana for treats!
