You are such a great, wonderful Momma to even think of this . The good news is, you probably don't have to worry about it much. Our bodies and our dogs' bodies make any metabolism adjustments VERY, very slowly. In other words, it has to take weeks of a significant change in either direction for the metabolism to actually change itself. If you want to reduce a bit, it won't hurt...but most likely the metabolism will be just fine and there won't be any appreciable weight gain or anything.
