I do not live close enough work to come home during the day so I keep Diezel gated in a hallway about 8 ft. long. He has food and water, his bed toys. He is fine when I leave because he gets a treat and knows that there is one hidden someplace in there for him to find. If I have to go out at night after being home for only a couple hours I leave him out in the living room/ kitchen area. Not often but he is good so once in a while he gets what he has earned.

I only crate him at night when its time for bed. I have tried to let him sleep out of the crate but when he sleeps with me on the couch or bed he has me up all night licking my face. And if I leave hiim in his bed he does nothing but bark to wake me up. After a few sleepless months we learned he is content sleeping in his crate.
