Decades ago, I was really good at catching them with scissor traps. Since that isn't what you want to do another of the old school methods, in addition to urine, is human hair placed inside of their mounds. With a tiny shovel dig into one of their mounds until you reach the tunnel, place hair, urine, dog feces, stuff like that.... Repeat in the other mounds as you accumulate the apex predator scented material.

Successful mole trapping requires the use of gloves so that human scent doesn't ever get on the traps... If a trapper doesn't use gloves and is still occasionally successful, he's just lucky.

But you really are just chasing them into a neighbor's yard and they will likely be back if no one eradicates them.
