Default 50mg Tramadol for 5 pound Yorkie??

Hi,

Hopefully I have this in the right "room" now Here is a link to the other posting with more detail if needed. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...nput-asap.html

Charlie, 12 yr old yorkie, was diagnosed today with Pancreatitis. I have him home now and he is kind of sleeping(was given IV pain meds with fluids and something to coat the stomach). My question is I just looked at the RX bottle for the Tramadol that he is to start in the morning and it says to give him 1 50mg tablet every 12 hours. I didn't notice the dosage while at the vet and I can't call them now until morning. Does that seem extremely high to anyone else? From what I am reading that seems like 40mg to much at the highest dose. Again, he doesn't need it til morning and I can check with the vet but that dosage seems dangerous for a 5 pound dog.

Thanks for any input. (part of my problem is this is an unknown vet clinic to me since mine was closed)
