I don't think it's silly for you to feel the way you do after losing your furbaby. And before deciding on male/female, maybe it's best to find a good reputable breeder first. I think a good breeder will be able to "match" you with a right puppy.
As for marking.. my boy only marks outside. Zoey was the one that would mark inside but that's been fixed.
